Lip Lift
Description
A lip lift is a surgical procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the upper lip by reducing the vertical distance between the base of the nose and the border of the upper lip (an area called the philtrum).
The Process
During the procedure, a small strip of skin is removed from just beneath the nose, and the remaining skin is lifted and sutured. This technique elevates the position of the upper lip, resulting in increased visibility of the pink portion (vermilion), a more defined cupid’s bow, and often, increased upper tooth show when the lips are slightly parted or at rest. It addresses concerns about an elongated philtrum, which can occur with aging, or can be used to create better facial balance. It differs from lip fillers, which add volume rather than changing the lip’s position.
The Benefit
A lip lift offers a permanent solution for enhancing the upper lip area and improving facial harmony. Here are some potential benefits:
✓ Shortens the Philtrum: Reduces the distance between the nose and upper lip.
✓ Increases Upper Lip Show: Makes more of the pink lip visible, creating a fuller appearance.
✓ Enhances Cupid’s Bow: Creates more definition in the shape of the upper lip.
✓ Improves Tooth Show: Can reveal more of the upper teeth when the mouth is at rest.
✓ Creates Facial Balance: Contributes to a more proportionate and youthful look.
✓ Permanent Results: Offers a lasting change compared to temporary fillers.
✓ Well-Concealed Scar: The incision is usually hidden in the natural crease beneath the nose.
