Vascular Lesions

Vascular Lesions

Description

Vascular lesions are common skin blemishes formed by visible clusters of abnormal or enlarged blood vessels located near the surface of the skin. Examples include spider veins (telangiectasias), cherry angiomas (small red dots), rosacea-related redness, port-wine stains, and venous lakes (bluish spots often on lips/ears). Treatment typically involves non-invasive light-based technologies, such as specific lasers (like Pulsed Dye or Nd:YAG lasers) or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). These devices emit targeted wavelengths of light energy that are preferentially absorbed by hemoglobin, the red pigment within blood cells inside the unwanted vessels. This absorption creates heat, causing the vessel walls to collapse and seal shut without significant damage to the surrounding skin. The body’s natural processes then gradually absorb and eliminate these treated vessels over several weeks. Multiple sessions may be required depending on the type, size, and depth of the lesion.

The Benefit

Laser and light therapies offer effective ways to reduce or eliminate the appearance of various vascular lesions, leading to clearer, more even-toned skin. Here are some potential benefits:

✓ Reduces Spider Veins: Effectively treats fine red or purple vessels on the face and legs.
✓ Diminishes Facial Redness: Lessens the background redness and flushing associated with rosacea.
✓ Removes Cherry Angiomas: Clears common small, bright red spots.
✓ Lightens Port-Wine Stains: Can significantly fade these congenital vascular birthmarks.
✓ Improves Skin Appearance: Creates a more uniform complexion by reducing vascular blemishes.
✓ Targeted Treatment: Precisely targets blood vessels while minimizing effects on surrounding tissue.
✓ Non-Invasive Approach: Avoids needles or surgery for many common vascular concerns.
✓ Minimal Downtime: Most treatments allow for a quick return to normal activities.
